Saturday Drive, July 19th
We hit several Okanagan farmers markets and fruit stands today. I love fresh produce. Touching it, smelling it, photographing it.
My fella thinks it's only a matter of time before I get the boot for fondling the fruit. (Yeah, I can rhyme. Produce inspires me.)

I also like smelling the garlic heads. Yugoslavian garlic was $1.

The farmers market was pretty busy. Okanagan growers were selling fresh corn on the cob, local honey, flower bouquets and homemade birdhouses.

There was also a live auction in the building next door. We stopped in for a peek, but didn't buy anything.
We don't need any more 'stuff'.
Here's my favorite pic of the day - our neighbour's grandaughter with her big smile and her little watering can. She posed for a picture then quickly dismissed me.
She was very busy 'watering the worms'.

Ohhhhh fresh, sweet corn on the cob. I really miss that here. Eat some for me OK?

You don't eat much corn on the cob in Guaymas? I thought we passed tons of cornfields driving through Mexico... but maybe it was actually sugarcane.
Can't you get it there?

Yes, there is tons of corn here; but it is not the sweet corn that we are used to eating as corn on the cob in Canada. It is eaten that way here but does not taste the same. The corn here is different and used for making corn tortillas, etc.. When you are here in the winter try a cob and you will see what I mean. It is hard and tough compared to the varieties up north.

One of the best types of corn for eating is call 'Peaches and Cream'. Just picked and cooked the same day with melted butter, a little salt and freshly cracked pepper...its just devine. Missed you on Sunday but we'll soon have you over for another corn roast.

Sounds good... we'll bring the corn. And maybe we could save a few cobs and mail them to Brenda in Guaymas!
