Munchie Monday Has Changed
The feature formerly known as Munchie Monday has been changed to Munchie Martes.
Martes (mar-tez) is Tuesday in Spanish. Munchie Martes is a guest post written by my fella, describing the various Mexican treats he finds throughout our travels. He'd like you to live vicariously through his taste buds.
And he wants to eat lots of treats. Here's Munchie Martes, numero dos.
It's been a great couple of days in Mexico. On Sunday we played tennis, then went to Abels in Guayabitos for my all time favourite Mex meal, Burritos Aztecas (which will be featured in an upcoming edition of Munchie Martes).
Yesterday we drove to Puerto Vallarta for groceries and strolled around Old Town for hours. This morning I unpacked my fishing gear and I'm on my way out to the shoreline three blocks away, to try some shoreline casting in Sayulita. But first: Munchie Martes.
Last night after supper, I went for a quick walk through downtown Sayulita in search of cake. I followed my dessert instincts and let the Mexican stars guide me along a couple of streets, straight to the local bake shop.
This is what I found.
An amazingly rich chocolate cake topped with a creamy layer of Mexican cheesecake.
I don't know if there is an actual name for this kind of cake, so I'll call it choco-queso cake. Queso (kay-so) means cheese in Spanish.
Choco-queso cake is unreal. The bottom layer is light, rich, but not-too-sweet chocolate, nestled under a creamy cheesecake layer. Cheese is so much tastier and flavourful here in Mexico and this cheesecake layer was awesome.
The whole thing was topped with a very thin layer of chocolate mousse-ish frosting, light enough to melt in your mouth and almost leave you dizzy.
Choco-queso, Mexican style... the perfect evening snack with a big glass of cold milk. It could be my favorite munchie yet.
Until next week...
