We usually see Oregon as we're whizzing through on the I-5.
But during this trip back up to Canada, we decided to cruise highway 101 along the coastline and actually visit parts of this naturally beautiful state.
One morning while I was working on some stock stuff, My fella took the mutts to check out a nearby lighthouse at Cape Meares State Park.
Next stop - the famous octopus tree.
And finally a quick trip down to the beach. This piece of coastal land was donated by a local man from Oceanside, Oregon who wanted to preserve this view for us all to enjoy.
Between the Tillamook cheese factory, the excellent Passport America RV parks and this amazing scenic coastline, we'll definitely be spending a lot more time in Oregon in the future.
Oh yeah... and no state sales tax!
FYI: We stayed at the Big Spruce RV Park about 6 miles west of Tillamook. It's a little family owned park, costing only $13/night with full hook-ups (50 amp) plus full cable service and free wifi. The park is minutes away from the ocean, hiking trails, lighthouses, two cheese factories, etc. Vacationing fishermen definitely stay here and you can rent a fishing boat on-site.
We checked out the park on RV Park Reviews and the latest review from June 2010 suggested this park was too small for longer rigs. JohnnyDisco is 36', and although we had to unhook our tow vehicle, we had no problems getting set up at our site. Then again My Fella is an excellent driver. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Our favorite campground is Nehalem Bay State Park, near the trendy town of Manzanita Oregon. Nestled in the sand dunes with elk, coyotes, pine trees, and next to miles of beach. Sites are immaculate and you can hear the roar of the surf. it is so wild and peaceful there, a beach lovers paradise!

Mr P - we drove through Manzanita a couple days ago on our way to Astoria. Yes, it is a lovely area.
Sounds like you know the Oregon coast really well. Will you be back this summer in your new rig?

I thought that seasoned RVers referred to their vehicle in tow as "a toad"
Get with it, I think that you are too young!

RV Park Reviews are notoriously unreliable! I have disagreed with so many reviews that I have given up on them.
Tillamook Cheese! Great stuff!

Cali Rick - we're not seasoned enough yet to toss out the RV lingo... give us at least another season :)

Mexi-Croft - Do you ever read the reviews at rvparkreviews.com before checking out a site or do you just form your own opinion when you get there?
We have been getting the odd nugget of good info from them but it really depends what you're looking for in a park.
