We made tons of furry new friends during our two month stay in Mexico.
My Fella and I both love mutts so we spent a few days every week at Barb's Dog Rescue, a non-profit group that takes in homeless strays in Puerto Penasco. They also spay/neuter street dogs and rescue abandoned litters of tiny pups.
There's not enough adjectives in the world to describe how awesome Barb is.
My Fella and I had tons of fun socializing these pups. The goal is to help them trust and like humans again so they'd get a chance at adoption some day.
And some even end up here in Canada, fostered and eventually adopted by Canadian dog lovers.
We bonded with so many pups over the eight weeks, but there are 2 that grabbed our hearts from day one.
I don't have a 'before' picture of Fonzy and Briggs, but you wouldn't want to see it anyway.
The sweet young brothers were tossed out of a car outside the rescue. They were starving, mangy, dirty... and completely freaked out by humans. Briggs was so scared you couldn't get near him. He had to be tricked into a live trap with a yummy hot dog as bait.
Barb and her staff worked their magic on Briggs and Fonzy's health and My Fella and I spent time in their kennel, playing and petting and helping them trust. In just 2 months, they seemed to forget what jackasses some humans can be. And they morphed into healthy, friendly, loving dogs.
I was so happy to see this recent facebook update on Fonzy and Briggs. Apparently they followed us home to Canada :)
